Ruth turned 14 in April and had her ears pierced for her birthday. She got her learners permit in May and enjoys driving. She began this year as an eighth grader. In the spring she did pole vaulting and placed in four meets. She finished eighth grade on the "Principal's Honor Roll". August found Ruth preparing for Kids Camp where she was a Junior counselor. She went to Camp Quaker Haven in Ark City with the area EFC churches. She helped with 5th graders and really enjoyed it. She plans to go again next year. Ruth started her freshman year in high school in August. She is enjoying school and was tickled that she has two classes with her cousin, Molly. She is taking sewing and has made pajama pants, a hat and a skirt. During the fall, she played her clarinet in the marching band and really enjoyed it. She is now in concert band and has started playing the Contra Alto Clarinet. Ruth played volleyball this past fall. She started out on the freshman team as a setter and was moved up to JV after her second game. She enjoyed the challenge of playing with the older girls. She is now doing weight lifting to keep in shape. |
Peter turned 15 in January and also received his learners permit in May. He enjoys driving and looks forward to that day when he has some independence. He began 2002 as a freshman in high school. In January, he was "Freshman Student of the Month" and he finished the school year on the "Principal's Honor Roll". One of Peter's highlights this past year was going to the the midnight showing of the "Star Wars" movie with his family. He continues to read books in the "Star Wars" series and collect the Lego sets. Another series he enjoys is "The Lord of the Rings" and yes he was excited when the first movie came out. He even used his own money and bought the DVD for himself. He is looking forward to the second movie coming out on December 18th. In August, Peter found himself starting his sophmore year. He continues to take classes in science and social studies which are his two favorite subjects. In biology, he studied genetics and had to watch a pair of mice until they had babies. While visiting at our house over the weekend, they had 9 babies. Peter has also grown an interest in computers. This summer he attended a "Summer Technology Boot Camp" to learn more about computers. This next year he is participating in the STAT (Student Technology Assistance Team). In this class he will be combining instruction in basic computer and network maintenance with actual hands on experiences working with students and staff to solve technology problems at the high school and district wide. |

Steve continues to work for Southwestern College in the computer area while Veva continues to be in the home. Steve and Veva are very active in Awana at there church and this is their 8th year. They worked hard and finally finished their first handbook to receive their "First Book Ribbon." Ruth finished her 6th handbook in Awana to receive her Meritorious Trophy. She is now working in the Varsity (high school)l curriculum. Peter finished his first year of Varisty (high school) curriculum. He received his yellow pin and now is working for his red pin. |
Steve and Veva took their family on another road trip. This time the kids did most of the driving which was an adventure. This year we went to Dinosaur National Monument in NW corner of Colorado. In Wyoming, we toured the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone National Park, & Devil's Tower. We saw lots of beautiful sights and different kinds of animals, like bears, elk, moose, and buffalo. (Be sure to ask Steve about the little bear he chased just to get him on video). |

Then over in South Dakota we saw Mount Rushmore, several caves and many other interesting places. After our road trip we ended up at Glendo, Wyoming at the Lone Tree Bible Ranch and Fort Lone Tree for the 2002 Awana Scholarship Camp. Steve and Veva were the Green Team Captains and counselors. Veva stayed in the Fort while Steve got to sleep out in the open, in a tree house. Ruth and Peter were both in the Varsity (high school) group. During the "Train For It" time Ruth participated in a drama and Peter worked with the puppets. We also experienced the power of prayer on Wednesday night when there was a lightening strike which resulted in a fire a half mile away from the JV camp. Everything was very dry there but with God's help, the fire was put out before it got away. |
